I am on a quest to visit all 50 states.

This desire came over me a few years ago when I realized I had fewer than 20 states left to visit.  As I close in on my goal, I am becoming more desperate to complete this challenge.

I have a few strict rules about the visits:

  1. Airports do not count
  2. You must be more than “just over the border”
  3. You must have your feet on the ground, driving through does not count

Recently I was able to knock another state off my list:  Oklahoma.  We were visiting friends in Dallas and realized that Oklahoma was less than a two hour drive away.  Our friends said make sure you stop for fried pies in Davis.  New state?  Fried pies?  Let’s go!

Our first stop was Turner Falls to see the highest waterfall in Oklahoma.  At 77 feet high, it is not especially impressive.  However, Turner Falls is only a five minute drive from Arbuckle Mountain Original Fried Pies, right off Route 35.  The restaurant is not much to look at, but the pies are delicious!  They have both savory and sweet pies.  Give them 4 minutes and you will be rewarded with mouth burning deliciousness wrapped in pastry.  You can even make your own two flavor combo.  I personally recommend the apricot pie!

Every state has something to offer. Oklahoma has fried pie. Yum!

P.S. Only 8 more states to go!

P.P.S  Only 6 more states to go! Happy to have visited Kentucky and Ohio.
